WHS Exhibit to Reopen in the Fall

Those who were able to visit the Josiah Smith Tavern for the May 21 Celebrate Weston day were treated to a preview of the Weston Historical Society exhibit “History Under One Roof: The Evolution of the Josiah Smith Tavern.”

The exhibit is finished and it is amazing. But because of construction and administrative delays, the society does not yet have a formal lease at the JST. The Town needs to finalize the master lease agreement with the private, non-profit organization Friends of the JST, which will be managing the building. WHS will be sub-leasing four rooms from the Friends. Once that happens, WHS will be able to hold regular exhibit hours and gallery tours. We expect this legal process to be concluded sometime this summer. The exhibit will be on view through the end of 2022.

For out-of-town guests who can only visit this summer, please email info@westonhistory.org for an appointment.

We are often asked about the restaurant. Once the master lease is signed, The Friends of the JST will be negotiating with the many interested restaurateurs, who will need to fit out the space in the barn and connector and put in a kitchen.
