Weston’s Burgoyne Elm before 1967, when limbs of the dying tree had to be removed.
The upper limbs were removed in the summer of 1967.
The height of the bole was reduced, the surface was sanded, and Rotary volunteers located important dates at intervals by counting the rings. (1975)
This cage was one of several ideas proposed to protect the bole.
Beginning in 1967-68, wood from the Burgoyne Elm was distributed to the Industrial Arts Department of the Junior and Senior High Schools. Prizes were awarded.

The Weston Historical Society is sponsoring the second edition of Pam Fox’s book Farm Town to Suburb: The History and Architecture of Weston, Massachusetts, 1830 to 2020. The 2001 book has been extensively revised. A new 24-page chapter with color photographs brings the book up to date, including recent town history and physical changes like new buildings and town center improvements. The original 30 chapters have been revised to reflect new research, correct errors, and record changes. The 736-page book includes 1075 images, 62 of which are new to this edition. Ten percent of the purchase price will be donated to the historical society.
In 2002, Farm Town to Suburb was awarded a Certificate of Commendation from the American Association for State and Local History.

Fox said of the new edition: “I feel today, as I did when the book was first published, that understanding the town’s history helps build a sense of connection to the community and investment in its future. New photos added to the original book include Marian Case with the children of her Hillcrest staff and Margaret, Virginia, and Linda Wellington in 1909 in front of their summer house, Gateways, on Wellesley Street.
Color photos included in the new 24-page chapter, covering 1980 to 2020, include this photograph of the 1984 opening of Tavernside Park and the Weston Community Gardens float at the Founders Day Parade in October 2013.
