In January 2024, the Weston Historical Society moved back into our long-time headquarters at the Josiah Smith Tavern. The society moved out in 2019 so that the building could be restored using Community Preservation Act funds. The tavern is managed by the Friends of Josiah Smith Tavern, a private, non-profit organization. Three community non-profits (Weston Historical Society, Weston Forest and Trail Association, and Weston Community League) are leasing space in the main building, where a second-floor ballroom is available for rental. The barn and connector will be developed as a farm-to-sea-to-table restaurant called The Woods, being planned by Weston resident and restaurateur Brian Piccini of Boston Urban Hospitality. Estimated opening date is fall 2026.

Headquarters: The Weston Historical Society occupies four rooms on the first floor of the newly restored Josiah Smith Tavern. Two rooms are used as a Weston history center, with photos, documents, archival materials, and books, along with space for researchers and for volunteers working on the collection. The other two rooms are used for changing exhibits. WHS collections of furniture, objects, paintings, and framed items are stored in the basement of St. Julia Church and are accessible with advance notice. The society is deeply grateful to the church for providing this space.

Open Hours: The historical society is open most Tuesdays from 10 to 12 and by appointment (email info@westonhistory.org).
